Evergreen is unlike your average New York City Chinese food. It is light, full of flavor, as opposed to the usual greasy Chinese food joints you usually stumble upon. Customers rate it as the best Chinese food in Murray Hill and swear by their authentic Chinese classics.
Try Evergreen the next time you are craving Chinese, for a hearty meal that will leave you wanting more!
Shanghai Style Spring Rolls
Black Pepper Sauce Chicken—With wine, soy and sesame sauce
Shanghai Style Pan Fried Noodles—With chicken, shrimp, pork and mixed vegetables
Chilean Seabass—Steamed with ginger and scallion
Peking Duck—With pancakes, scallions, hoisin sauce and cucumber
Crispy Chicken—In sweet pineapple sauce
The dumplings are to die for as are all the entrees. I have ordered many tomes and never been disappointed.

NYC Chinese food is usually overpriced and doesn't match the price in quality. Far from the case with Evergreen. Always delivers quickly, portions, taste, and overall experience is great.

Fast delivery and great lunch special. The portions may look small but it is super filling and delicious! Everything I've ordered from Evergreen has been a really good and satisfying. This place is a must!!

This is my go-to for delivery when I want generic Chinese food. I have ordered here several times, often during busy times and weekends, and my food shows up piping hot within 20 minutes, without fail.
Evergreen is your standard Americanized menu, but it's a step above the grease pit competition in the area. The vegetables always seem fresh and abundant, the meat is never questionable, and it's not the same sauce on each dish. Yes, it's still way too oily for what it is, and there's room for improvement (get real rice wrappers for the mu-shu, the flour tortillas ruin it), but they are consistent and if you stick to the generics, it's quite impressive.

I have ordered here a few times with my co-workers. The lunch options are pretty good but the last few times we got it, the food just hasn't seemed to be the same quality- it has been more greasy.
Posted 10 months ago by Elizabeth K.
I've been ordering from Evergreen for years. They must have started cost cutting because general tso chicken is never fresh at lunchtime any more. Tastes like it was premade and microwaved, coating is hard and chicken inside dry and tasteless.

I agonized over where to order Chinese from on Seamless because when you read the reviews for most these places they are either really great (potentially fake) or terrible. I took the leap and orderdd from Evergreen Shanghai last night and it was excellent. Food arrived HOT and with great taste (not greasy). Only wish is that it would have been a bit more spicy.

Ordered the Salted Dry Fish w. Chicken Fried Rice, but received Egg Fried Rice with about 2 pieces of fish and 3 pieces of chicken. PLENTY OF EGG THOUGH. no scallions, carrots or anything that a usual fried rice would have. Would not order from here again.

The food was just soso, and the worse part is they totally forgot I made an order. When I called the lady why I didn't have the delivery on time, she was just blaming Seamless system which I doubt was the case. Anyway finally when the delivery arrived, it was hours later than expected and I was really upset.

Had an office luncheon and EVERYTHING we ordered was delicious. (Scallion pancakes, pork dumplings, Chicken and Broccoli, Orange Flavored Beef, Eggplant in Garlic Sauce, Pepper Steak, Prawns Sautéed in Chili Sauce and Chicken Lo Mein) My co-workers made a comment about so much food but there were no leftovers. New Favorite Chinese Restaurant in Midtown.

I don't usually write reviews.. So here I go. I ordered the sweet and sour CHICKEN, with rice. And a side order or CHICKEN dumplings with tiramsu for dessert. The order arrived promptly, but that was about the best thing about this order.. The batter on the chicken was crumbly and sodgy. The chicken pieces were tasteless and most of the dish was infact PORK. I decided to throw the sweet and sour away and try the dumplings.. to find.. yup you guessed it PORK. Soggy pork dumplings :( I then tried the dessert to find that it was frozen in the middle and again tasteless. The best thing about this order was the can of coke. So very disappointed considering I spent 19 dollars on food and 3 dollars tip. I will not be ordering from here again.

bad szechuan chicken. steam buns are not soup dumplings.

not great. Moo Shu pork was practically meat-free and soggy. They forgot the sauce too which of course makes the dish.

Food is mediocre at best. I would not have ordered from this place again but my coworker wanted to try the preserved pork and cabbage noodle soup I had yesterday. I ordered from seamless and was given a confirmation time of 10-15 minutes. I got there 15mins from my confirmation email. I checked on the order 3 times during the extra 25mins I had to wait. The cashier tells me that the confirmation was for 20-30 mins even though i should her my confirmation email that clearly says 10-15. She shrugs and says she doesn't know why. I kept wondering if they wrongly gave my food to someone else. Finally I get my food and have the cashier tell me that I should really call; they give priority to customers that call. If seamless web is really at the bottom of your priority list, then maybe this restaurant shouldn't really be here!

I ordered pan fried noodles. Noodles were fried to a point where I couldn't chew it. The portion was so small that even a 5 year old would be hungry after eating it. Seafood was extremely fishy. Vegetables were not fresh. I had a stomach ache because I couldn't digest the noodle. I was extremely unhappy and wrote a complaint to seamlessweb to get a refund. Don't waste money on food that shouldn't even be sold in the first place. It's wayyy below standard. Worst order I have gotten thru seamlessweb.

Great lunch specials if you are in the mood for chinese. It was hard not to take a nap under my desk after eating it but that was to be expected with chinese food. I recommend the chicken and broccoli.
Posted 3 years ago by laura d.
Pretty average chinese food. The dishes are really basic, not much more than a meat and maybe one or two vegetables. They taste pretty okay though. Not overly spicy or particularly flavorful. The fried rice is pretty much the same way. Not unexpected in any way, but more or less basic, run-of-the-mill fried rice. This restaurant will definitely satisfy a craving for chinese food, but nothing extraordinary should be expected from it.

Posted 4 years ago by Kevin L.
Never ordering from here again because:
1) They got my order wrong and didn't include a lychee dessert that I had ordered.
2) They didn't read the "special instructions" I had written.
3) The part of the order they got right, seafood noodle soup, had a tiny serving of seafood at the top and was mostly noodles. Noodle soups I've ordered from other Chinese restaurants didn't have nearly as high of a "noodle-to-other stuff" ratio.
On the plus side, delivery was relatively fast.
Posted 4 years ago by J. C.
I really enjoyed the lunch I ordered from there. Delivery is also very fast. The food was fresh. I will continue to order from them.
Posted 4 years ago by Susan S.
They don't offer brown rice and did not call to let me know when I requested it with my order. My bad for assuming that all chinese restaurants offer brown rice. Their bad for not letting me know my special request could not be fulfilled and then being rude on the phone when I called up to ask.
Posted 4 years ago by Adam F.
absolutely terrible. this place used to be my go-to for Chinese food in the city. i don't know if they have outsourced their delivery or something but the food sucks now. SUCKS. their general tsos used to be my favorite. now its GARBAGE.
Posted 4 years ago by Joshua S.
i think my one star designation pretty much sums up my delivery experience. if you insist. the food was drenched with oil, the restaurant over seasoned everything and the rice wasn't even cooked properly. who screws up rice? perhaps the person cooking my chinese food wasn't chinese to begin with. just saying....

Gross. Oily vegetable roll; doughy dumpings; chewy broccoli. Very disappointing.

Pork buns were OK but probably wouldn't order again. Also ordered the Shanghai fried rice and pan fried noodles, both of which were excellent. One of the best Chinese food places we've found in the area so far.

Long time customer of Evergreen. Have never ordered anything that didn't taste fantastic. Excellent packaging to keep hot foods piping hot. The delivery time is a bit long but worth the wait.
Posted 4 years ago by Kevin C.
Lets go ahead and give 3 stars to this place. The chicken and cashews were yum yum good. The chicken and broccoli was also above average HOWEVER the meat in the won ton soup left something to be desired. The shrimp dumplings were average to below average. Would not order them again. The chicken wings were about as good as you could expect from a chinese restaurant so no complaints there. Not great, not horrible. DO NOT GET THE LEMON CHICKEN< YUCK

Delicious food - loved the Singapore Noodles! Soup could have been a bit hotter..but otherwise fast and excellent service...Thank you
Posted 4 years ago by Monika P.
This place used to be terrific but has really gone downhill. The General Tso's chicken used to be delicious. No more. They've changed the sauce which is now a much less tasty orange-esque sauce that's a little too sweet. The cooking techniques have also changed. The crust is mealy and the chicken mushy. Other dishes are still good, but what was the best General Tso's in the city is now really disappointing.
Posted 4 years ago by Justin B.
Absolutely horrible. Obviously don't understand that there are hundreds of Chinese restaurants in Midtown to choose from. I ordered the diet dish with jumbo shrimp, $5 extra and got FOUR TINY shrimp and about a cup of vegetables. I called to complain and the woman was extremely rude. I won't be ordering again and will warn co-workers not to either

The food is very good, and exactly what I wanted when I picked Evergreen Shanghai, however the delivery man was very rude. He felt the need to complain and tell me that I shouldn't have ordered from his restaurant because my apartment, located on 53rd and 9th, is too far from his restaurant and it was inconvenient for him to make the delivery. Hey, Evergreen, if you don't want to deliver to my area change the delivery radius on your vendor account. Don't complain to me about it because I really don't care as long as I get my food. It's your own fault. Good food, but rude delivery men if you don't live near the restaurant. I tipped him. Nothing more I can do if the restaurant shows up in my delivery options.
Posted 5 years ago by Gina L.
Shao Mai Shanghai style were these dumplings filled with something similar to what I often get at dim sum wrapped in tea leaves. The Shanghai fried rice is what I'd usually call "Young Chow" or "Yang Chow". Everything I had was delicious.
Posted 5 years ago by Megan T.
Overall was correct for my lunch.
Delivery: a tiny bit late but i won't blame them since it's Thanksgiving.
Food presentation: good, and overall each container was filled to the top.
Food quality: correct, I'm very picky about Chinese food, and I rate it of correct quality for NYC. The recipes were all correct, it looked freshly-cooked but it was missing a bit of flavors like most of the Chinese restaurants here.
Conclusion: Lunch specials are an amazing deal.

Horrible order overall - the shanghai spring rolls were so poorly fried that there was oil dripping off them, and they weren't even crunchy - just soggy because of oil. The general tso's chicken was really bad - the chicken was totally overfried because you could bearly bite into it, and the sauce was super-thin, waterlke consistency. Will never order from here again.

Food usually ok, but the General Tso's chicken I just ordered tasted like strips of fried cardboard. I think 50% of the pieces didn't have any meat in them (just fried up pieces of batter)
Posted 7 years ago by Andrew M.
Food is pretty good. Their service is terribly inconsistent. I've ordered from there multiple times and the last 5 times I've gotten food, it's taken over an hour each time. My only issue with this is that they estimated that it would take between 25 - 40 minutes. Only order from here if you want to wait at least an hour for your food.

Six months ago this restaurant was one of the best. The seafood dumplings and chicken stir fry were marvelous, and the sushi could be counted on. However, this restaurant has slid downhill quite quickly. Another major complaint is that the delivery men call 15 minutes before they arrive to say they are downstairs (if you work in a building). In conclusion, in a highly competitive NYC restaurant market, only the strong, savvy, delicious and customer-friendly places survive. Unfortunately, this one has already died.
Posted 7 years ago by Jed M. B.
Took awhile to get here... but the sushi was pretty good. No complaints.
Posted 7 years ago by Chase W.
Amateurish. They use soy sauce for Chinese cabbage w/ black mushroom, which should be a light dish seasoned only by salt and light broth. The taste is ok, the ingredients are fresh, but it's really second-rate Chinese food that any one can whip up.
